What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
As a licensed therapist and coach, I offer support depending on where you are and what you need.
Therapy is a space for emotional healing and self-understanding. It often involves exploring past experiences, making sense of unhelpful patterns, especially in relationships, and working through the thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that may be causing distress. When appropriate, it can also include addressing mental health diagnoses. It’s a structured and confidential process that’s guided by licensure and state regulations.
Coaching, on the other hand, is mainly forward-focused. It’s about helping you identify goals, build momentum, and take aligned action. Coaching isn’t about diagnosis or treatment; it’s about strategy and accountability. It can also be offered across state or even international lines.
In short: therapy helps you make sense of where you’ve been and how it’s shaped you; coaching helps you get clear on where you’re going and how to get there.
